Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

Craven Arms - SY7 9RS

Autumn Business Update for South Shropshire

Our autumn event will cover a couple of really good developments which might affect you if you are in business in or near to the SY7 postcode area

We will have a free locally-sourced buffet prepared by the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre's Grow Cook Learn team.

Wine, cider, beer and apple juice will be kindly provided by  SY7-based businesses Ludlow Vineyard and Woods Brewery!

University Centre Shrewsbury

At long last, Shropshire has got its own University campus where there are undergraduate courses in general business subjects such as Business Management, Finance and Banking. This is a really big development for us in the South of the county because it means that bright young people won't have to head off out of the area to study and be lost as a resource for local businesses to employ in the vacations and on projects.  When they graduate, they are more likely to look for employment here in the county. Shropshire has always suffered a chronic 'brain drain' up until now and we will be able to hear about the various courses and how the University might want to engage with businesses in our area.

The Marches Growth Hub

Remember Business Link?  It was more or less scrapped soon after the new coalition government took power in 2010. Well it's back ... sort of.

The new incarnation is called Growth Hubs. It does more or less exactly what Business Link did.   So whether you liked Business Link or didn't it's back in town with a new name and as it's the MARCHES growth hub, there are of course 3 of them! One each in Shrewsbury, Telford and Hereford. There will also be a web presence and we'll be hearing about that too.

The Discovery Centre - Facilities for businesses

The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre has always been the favourite venue for Business Network meetings and there will be sandwiches and snacks with  a 90% SY7 provenance.

Janet Radford, the Discovery Centre's new chief executive will give us a quick 'heads-up' on the Grow Cook Learn project and we can discuss ideas for running a series of subject-themed seminars there for 2016 - we want to hear what subjects you would like!

WHO can come along?

Membership of Craven Arms Business network is fairly informal and anyone whose business or home is located ANYWHERE  in the SY7 postcode area or any of the directly adjoining postcodes of SY6, SY8, SY9, SY15, LD7 or WV16 is very welcome to come along - just turn up - do please register if you can with our Eventbrite page though so we know how many are coming.
