Craven
Arms Community Food (CACF) was launched in October,
2004 and held its first Community and Farmers Market in November.
The market, held at the Discovery Centre, attracted 24 stall
holders and was attended by more than 1,000 people. A number
of people commented that Craven Arms buzzed that Saturday.
Craven
Arms will buzz again on the 26th February,
2005 when the second market will be held, again at
the Discovery Centre. In addition to supporting markets, CACF
has supported Shire Catering move Stokesay Primary School
into a pilot initiative to source school meals more locally.
CACF see twofold benefits in this development: that the food
moves fewer miles so reducing greenhouse gas emissions from
lorries and that farmers are again producing food for local
children.

CACF is also exploring the possibility of writing a recipe
book of favourite local dishes with HomeStart and organising
a series of spring and summer farm walks. At a recent Steering
Committee David Gibbon, Cheyney
Longville was elected Chair and Mike Turner,
Bushmoor, Co-ordinator.
If you would like to known more about CACF contact Mike
Turner tel: 01694 781 437 As a result of the first
Community and Farmers' Market, the CACF team have complied
a Directory of Local Producers in order that local people
can contact the local producers themselves to purchase locally
grown food between markets.
